2007 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2007 Cadillac CTS?
A: The first step for Engine Control Module (ECM) substitution involves obtaining engine oil and automatic transmission fluid life percentage data using a scan tool. Begin by turning off the ignition and check for zero voltage at the ecm Fuse related to the main relay circuit. Measurement of main relay circuit voltage at the underhood Fuse block's ecm Fuse requires a dvom while also disconnecting the battery negative cable. The technician will remove three essential fuses from the underhood block: ecm Fuse and tcm/instrument panel cluster (IPC) Fuse and ecm/tcm Fuse. The procedure to remove the chassis side (upper) ecm electrical connector requires users to depress the lever lock and simultaneously rotate the connector clamp lever while pressing the lock slide. Disconnect both end connectors of the ecm which include the body side (upper) ecm connector and the engine side (lower) ecm connector. Start by removing the ecm redundant ground wire and bolt then proceed to remove ecm bolts before pulling out the ecm from its position. Brunswick 2011 to replace the ecm bracket requires unbolting and removing the electrical connector bracket components followed by the ground wire components and wire harness retainer components. Finally, detach the ecm bracket using the ecm bracket bolts. Begin the installation process by fitting in the ecm bracket then fasten it with ecm bracket bolts. Secure the ecm bolts to the cylinder head with 10 n.m torque setting and secure the ecm bolt to the engine front cover bolt with 23 n.m torque. Complete the installation process by attaching the wire harness retainer and bolt to the ecm bracket while tightening it to 23 n.m (17 lb ft), then proceed with attaching the electrical connector bracket and bolt to the ecm bracket at 10 n.m (89 lb in) and finally connecting the wiring harness ground wire and bolt to the ecm bracket at 10 n.m (89 lb in). Place the ecm on its brackets while fastening both ecm bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Next, mount the ecm redundant ground with its matching bolt tightened to 5 n.m (44 lb in). The final step includes reattaching the ecm connectors from engine (lower) and body (upper) sides while replacing ecm/tcm, tcm/ipc and ecm fuses within the underhood Fuse block. Conclusion of the procedure includes reconnecting the battery negative cable along with programming the ecm.
