2006 Cadillac SRX Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2006 Cadillac SRX?
A: The replacement of an Engine Control Module (ECM) requires disconnecting the ignition to avoid harm to components. Record both engine oil life and automatic transmission fluid life using a diagnostic tool because failure to transfer those numbers into the new replacement module will set them to default values of 100% resulting in oil and fluid service requirements at 5000 km (3,000 mi) and 83000 km (50,000 mi). Turn the ignition off followed by using a dvom to measure the main relay circuit voltage at the ecm Fuse in the underhood Fuse block without any detected voltage. First disconnect the negative Battery Cable followed by removal of three connectors from the underhood Fuse block: ecm Fuse, tcm/ipc Fuse and ecm/tcm Fuse. You must open the upper ecm electrical connector by first unlocking the lever lock and rotating the clamp lever which requires depressing the lock slide. Unfasten the lower ecm connector taking care not to touch the pins since exposure to static discharges will harm the connector. The next step should be to remove the redundant ground wire along with its bolt following the ecm bolts before dismantling the ecm. Before ecm bracket removal you must remove the electrical connector bracket with its bolt, ground wire with bolt, wire harness retainer with bolt and all four screws anchoring the bracket. The installation process requires fastening the new ecm bracket with bolts securely positioned while tightening the bracket bolt to 10 n.m (89 lb in) and other bolts to 23 n.m (17 lb ft). Secure the wire harness retainer and bolt as well as the electrical connector bracket and bolt and wiring harness ground wire and bolt by applying the correct torque specifications. The procedure starts with installing the ecm without touching the connector pins before securing the first bolt at 10 n.m (89 lb in) while grabbing the redundant ground wire bolt with 5 n.m (44 lb in). Complete the connection between the two ecm connectors alongside installing the ecm/tcm Fuse and tcm/ipc Fuse and ecm Fuse into the underhood Fuse block. After ecm programming disconnect the battery negative cable followed by ignition shutdown that must last at least 5 seconds. The scan tool should be used to run the idle learn procedure and clear all dtcs after completion.
