2005 Cadillac SRX Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2005 Cadillac SRX?
A: The first step to change the Engine Control Module (ECM) requires turning off ignition to avoid component destruction. The replacement module will automatically need a 5000 km (3,000 mi) oil change and 83000 km (50,000 mi) transmission fluid change if you do not program the remaining oil life and transmission fluid life values through the scan tool. Use a dvom to measure underhood ecm Fuse main relay circuit voltage while the ignition is off to verify an absence of voltage. Remove the battery negative cable before you remove the ecm Fuse along with the tcm/ipc Fuse and ecm/tcm Fuse from the underhood Fuse block. The upper ecm electrical connector release lever must be unlocked through lever lock depression while rotating the clamp lever with the lock slide of the connector in position. Before working with the lower ecm connector, avoid touching the pins to ensure electrostatic discharge does not harm the components. Start by removing the ecm redundant ground wire together with its bolt and then separate each of the ecm bolts working from front to back. Finally, remove the ecm assembly. The replacement process for the ecm bracket begins with removal of the electrical connector bracket along with its bolt, the ground wire and its accompanying bolt, the wire harness retainer with its bolt, and finally the ecm bracket bolts before bracket removal. To install the new ecm bracket first fasten its bolts while tightening bolt to 10 n.m (89 lb in) and bolts to 23 n.m (17 lb ft). Reconnect the wire harness retainer by torquing its bolt to 18 in/lbs afterward secure the electrical connector bracket with its bolt followed by attaching the wiring harness ground wire with its bolt and ensuring all components are torqued to their specified value. The installation of the ecm requires torquing the bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in) and the redundant ground wire bolt to 5 n.m (44 lb in). The underhood Fuse block must receive back the ecm/tcm Fuse followed by the tcm/ipc Fuse and ecm Fuse. Follow the programming process by reconnecting the negative cable of the battery then programming the ecm before turning off the ignition while maintaining the power off for at least five seconds. The idle learn procedure must be completed after which the scan tool should clear every diagnostic trouble code.
