Cadillac Catera A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve in a system on Cadillac Catera?
    A:
The first step to replace a thermal expansion valve (TXV) should be refrigerant recovery from the a/c system. The first step in replacing the thermal expansion valve involves removing the evaporator tube extension block fitting bolt and then discharging the lf floor air outlet duct and the recirculation actuator solenoid screw and the hot water bypass valve solenoid screw. Electrical solenoid connectors must be disconnected before moving the solenoids aside. The task begins by unscrewing the evaporator access panel screws after which you disconnect both the evaporator access panel and the evaporator tube. First remove the screws and then factory txv from the system. To install the new txv use new o-rings that received mineral oil lubrication at 525 viscosity followed by securing it using txv screws tightened to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Install the evaporator tube using new o-rings which received mineral oil 525 viscosity lubrication and tighten the evaporator tube screw to 5 n.m (44 lb in). Reinstall the evaporator access panel along with its screws but tighten them to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Attach the electrical connectors to each solenoid while fixing the heater water valve electric vacuum solenoid onto the hvac module by using a vacuum solenoid screw optimized at 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Connect the recirculation actuator electric vacuum solenoid to the hvac module by tightening its vacuum solenoid screw to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Replace the lf floor air outlet together with the evaporator tube extension block fitting bolt while tightening it to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). The a/c system evacuation and recharging process will be followed by performing fittings leak detection using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
