Cadillac Catera Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on Cadillac Catera?
A: Start by removing the windshield wiper transmission and then disconnect the a/c evaporator extension from the cowl. Start your work by disconnecting the sensor to the reservoir cap while removing the Brake Master Cylinder. Unplug the vacuum hose running to the power Brake Booster and access the driver side floor air outlet duct. Take out the Brake Pedal pivot pin retainer through the Brake Pedal pivot pin then push the Brake Pedal pivot pin off the Brake Master Cylinder pushrod clevis. Make sure not to alter the clevis setting unless you replace the entire power Brake Booster. Unfasten the Brake Pedal master cylinder pushrod clevis from the Brake Pedal to access the brake master cartridge. Afterwards disconnect and secure the fuse and relay panel on a convenient side. First unpull the pedal bracket nuts then take off the power Brake Booster with gasket (to cowl) from the cowl. After that unfasten support bracket nuts and washers and finally detach the support bracket and gasket from the booster. To change the power Brake Booster you must first separate the clevis from the power Brake Booster pushrod. Place the clevis and adjusting nut on the new booster at the proper location then set the pushrod clevis between 105.5 - 106.5 mm (4.0 - 4.4 inches) and tighten the nut. Install the power Brake Booster gasket to the piston at 179-181mm mark before putting on the support bracket and washers. Secure support bracket nuts onto the booster parts and tighten them to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs). Position the power Brake Booster gasket (to cowl) over the studs on the bracket before installing the booster onto the cowl surface. Check for foreign material or sealant on the mounting surface before proceeding. Thread the Brake Pedal bracket nuts tightly to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Place and fasten the fuse and relay panel by tightening screws until they reach their seating position without damaging them. Put the Brake Master Cylinder pushrod clevis on the Brake Pedal while adding the Brake Pedal pivot pin and its retaining piece. Realign the air outlet duct on the driver floor while putting the power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose to the booster and Brake Master Cylinder back in place. Put the brake sensor wire into the reservoir cap before adding the windscreen wiper transmission back into place. Bring brake fluid out of the hydraulic system until work is finished.
