It is strategically a splendid part which effectively revolutionises Cadillac's luxury sedan division- the Catera Camshaft. Its main function is to control the operations of the intake and exhaust valves, thus it provides the adequate airflow for the combustion chamber of the Cadillac Catera, thus contribute to the efficacious power train of the vehicle. Camshaft is made up of iron or steel since the material endures more exertion; the working part consists of the eccentric lobes utilizing the OHV and DOHC designs. This complex engineering also enables the Cadillac Catera to have a smooth running while at the same time enhancing the performance of the engine. They also make it possible to easily adapt Camshaft for all sorts of Catera models, thus improving the car's performance. Since the camshaft is responsible for the connection with the crankshaft by means of the timing chains or belts the element is critical to the engine safety and efficiency and became one of key parts of the Cadillac Catera design. They include a unique feature to regulate both the lift and the duration of movement, which in turn increases the rate of air flow and power especially at high RPMs making the Cadillac Catera unique in the auto market. Cadillac Catera was manufactured from 1996 to 2001, but it is still considered one of the best models that presented the American brand as a creator of luxurious and powerful cars; the camshaft is one of the crucial elements of this model. All in all, the Camshaft depicts the company's reliability and innovation that the Cadillac Catera is likely to be accredited for the professional performance.

Cadillac Catera Camshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the right camshaft on Cadillac Catera?
    A:
The replacement of the right Camshaft begins by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by removing the intake plenum, intake air resonator, right Camshaft cover together with the front Timing Belt cover. The installer should remove the Timing Belt and turn the Crankshaft counterclockwise 60 degrees btdc before proceeding to stop valve/piston contact. Use the Camshaft gear locking tool (J 42069-1) for the Camshaft gear and then begin loosening the Camshaft gear bolt before removing both tools as you will discard the bolt. Free the Camshaft lifters from creating any binding forces since load on them leads to removal difficulties. The procedure starts by sequentially loosening bearing cap bolts then removing the caps while documenting the code marks on each cap. The procedure begins by removing the Camshaft with attached seal before proceeding to remove the Camshaft Seal. Afterwards clean all contact surfaces on the bearing and the sealing component. Apply gm p/n 1052367 lubricant or an equivalent on the Camshaft bearing surfaces where the pins should be placed to minimize load during installation. Install the Camshaft while applying a small amount of loctite(R) 573 or equivalent at the forward edge of the front bearing caps before correctly placing them into position. Secure all Camshaft bearing cap bolts using equal force until they reach 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). Position gm p/n 12377985 chassis grease or equivalent on the Camshaft Seal lip before inserting it using the Camshaft/front main seal installer (J 35268-A). Twist the Camshaft gear bolt to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) with the holding aid j 42069-1 in place and measure 60 degrees and 15 degrees more rotation with tool j 36660-a. After achieving tdc position for the Crankshaft, install all parts in the following order: Timing Belt, front Timing Belt cover, right Camshaft cover, intake plenum and intake air resonator with a final connection of the negative Battery Cable.
  • Q: How to replace the left camshaft on Cadillac Catera?
    A:
Begin left Camshaft replacement by taking out the intake plenum with its intake air resonator and the lh Camshaft cover together with the Timing Belt cover and Timing Belt. The counterclockwise Crankshaft rotation should achieve the 60 degrees btdc mark to stop piston and valve interaction. The Timing Belt alignment kit (J 42069) must be inserted into both Camshaft gears after which the Camshaft gear bolt and Camshaft gear can be removed. First remove the Camshaft bearing cap bolts and caps one at a time while keeping record of the code marks (R1, R2, R3, etc.) followed by removal of the Camshaft with its attached seal. Prepare all bearing and sealing surfaces by cleaning the areas before applying gm p/n 1052367 or equivalent lubricating agent to the Camshaft bearing surfaces. Caution must be taken when installing the Camshaft into the cylinder head as the exhaust Camshaft pin requires placement in the 12 o'clock position and the intake Camshaft pin needs to be set at the 7 o'clock position. Use loctite 573 or an equivalent adhesive to treat the front bearing caps before placing them in correct positions then tighten bearing bolts evenly to 8 nm torque. Use a Camshaft/front main seal installer (J 35268-A) to insert the lip of the Camshaft Seal while applying gm p/n 12377985 or equivalent coating material. To install the new Camshaft gear bolt use the Timing Belt alignment kit (J 42069) to stabilize the Camshaft gear during torquing to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) + 60 degrees + 15 degrees with torque/angle meter (J 36660-A). Reposition the Crankshaft at tdc and place the Timing Belt back in its appropriate place before reinstaling the front Timing Belt cover and both the lh Camshaft cover and intake plenum along with the intake air resonator and lastly reattach the battery negative cable.
