  • Q: How to Remove and Install the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on Cadillac Eldorado?
    A: To remove the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable, shut the ignition, and disable the sir system. Next pull the Steering Wheel inflator module, during this remove the retaining nut of the Steering Wheel then take the Steering Wheel out of the steering column shaft making sure the column is straightened to the 12 o'clock position by turning the key to the off/lock position, pulling it out, and then interlocking the Steering Shaft until there is a clicking noise is heard. Here it is important to carry the switch turn assembly in the "up" condition. It is necessary to disconnect the sir connector, from the fused jumper assembly connector and examine on the steering column for accident damage. Open the engine compartment, remove the retaining ring, wire protector, and sir coil assembly. For installation, ensure that the wheels were straight ahead by aligning the block tooth and centering mark on the race and upper shaft assembly at 12 o' clock marker. The new sir coil assembly will be pre centered; if using the available assembly, follow the guidelines prescribed in the notice on the sir coil assembly. Weigh the steering column to the 12 o clock condition and move up the hanging sir coil condition to the race and upper shaft assembly. Once installed, pull the tab and pull it off. Place the wire protector into the support bracket; the retaining ring, and the sir coil assembly connector to the fused jumper assembly connector. The steering column shaft should then be installed using the Steering Wheel and the assist the Steering Wheel nut with a torque of 41 n.m (30 lb ft). Finally, the Steering Wheel inflator module should be installed and the sir system should be activated.
