    How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring in the steering wheel module on Cadillac Eldorado? Posted by Customer

    In order to replace the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil, it's not before turning off the ignition and deactivating the sir system. Pull off the Steering Wheel inflator module then remove Steering Wheel retaining nut and Steering Wheel from column shaft then set column at the clock position and 12 o'clock place pulling out the ignition switch and turning the Steering Shaft until a click is heard. The Turn Signal Switch assembly has to be set to the "up." remove the sir connector from the fused jumper assembly-connector and inspect the steering column for accident damage. Displace the retaining ring, wire protector and air bag clock spring assembly. For installment, keep the wheels straight ahead and align the block tooth and centering mark of the race and upper shaft assembly at the 12 o'clock position. The new air bag clock spring assembly will be pre centered; the following instructions to use the existing one are to use the no ice of the air bag clock spring assembly (Grand Motor Company). You should adjust the steering column to the 12 o'clock position, and mount the hanging air bag clock spring assembly to the race and upper shaft assembly. Once it is installed, pull a tab to remove the pre centered feature. Install the wire protector with the support bracket and followed by retaining ring. Connect the air bag clock spring assembly connector with the fused jumper assembly connector. Mount the Steering Wheel and the Steering Wheel nut onto the steering column shaft and tighten it to 41 n.m (30 lb ft). Lastly, install the Steering Wheel inflator module and set the sir system in position.

    To remove the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable, shut the ignition, and disable the sir system. Next pull the Steering Wheel inflator module, during this remove the retaining nut of the Steering Wheel then take the Steering Wheel out of the steering column shaft making sure the column is straightened to the 12 o'clock position by turning the key to the off/lock position, pulling it out, and then interlocking the Steering Shaft until there is a clicking noise is heard. Here it is important to carry the switch turn assembly in the "up" condition. It is necessary to disconnect the sir connector, from the fused jumper assembly connector and examine on the steering column for accident damage. Open the engine compartment, remove the retaining ring, wire protector, and sir coil assembly. For installation, ensure that the wheels were straight ahead by aligning the block tooth and centering mark on the race and upper shaft assembly at 12 o' clock marker. The new sir coil assembly will be pre centered; if using the available assembly, follow the guidelines prescribed in the notice on the sir coil assembly. Weigh the steering column to the 12 o clock condition and move up the hanging sir coil condition to the race and upper shaft assembly. Once installed, pull the tab and pull it off. Place the wire protector into the support bracket; the retaining ring, and the sir coil assembly connector to the fused jumper assembly connector. The steering column shaft should then be installed using the Steering Wheel and the assist the Steering Wheel nut with a torque of 41 n.m (30 lb ft). Finally, the Steering Wheel inflator module should be installed and the sir system should be activated.
