Cadillac Eldorado Turn Signal Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Turn Signal Switch and hazard switch on Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Before working on the Turn Signal Switch and hazard switch you must disable the sir system first. Depress the modular coil of the inflatable safety steering wheel so you can remove the safety knob mounting bolt and the safety knob from the steering column. Fit j23653-sir lock plate compressor (J23653-SIR) on the upper steering shaft to push down the shaft lock before installing it onto the shaft. Disassemble the vehicle by taking off the bearing retainer and shaft lock in this sequence. Then take down both the turn signal cancel cam assembly and upper bearing spring. Take the tilt lever handle and Turn Signal Switch lever off by unscrewing them. Start by taking off the flat head tapping screw and round washer head screw then proceed with removing the signal switch arm assembly and lastly the pan head screws. To install the Turn Signal Switch easily you must disconnect it from the connector then connect a wire to the switch itself. Pull the connector through the column when you take out the turning signal unit. Guide the Turn Signal Switch assembly between the column and fit it onto the bulk head connector. Connect the Turn Signal Switch assembly onto the upper shaft assembly while tightening pan head screws to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Apply synthetic grease to the signal switch arm system then connect its parts by hand. Finally tighten 2 nm on the flat head tapping screw plus 4 nm on the round washer head screw. Connect the Turn Signal Switch lever with tilt lever handle along with upper bearing spring and turn signal cam assembly. Insert the shaft lock and bearing retainer onto the upper steering shaft and use j23653-sir lock plate compressor to depress and position the shaft lock into the groove of the bearing retainer. Mount the hazard knob with its screw on top of the upper steering column and tighten the hardware to 2 nm (20 inch lbs). Put in the steering wheel module coil before turning on the sir system.
