First step to replace the Water Pump is to drain the cooling system then take out the upper filler panel, air cleaner assembly, air injection control valve, oil level indicator tube nut, and Water Pump belt cover. Pull out the Water Pump Drive Belt and loosen the radiator outlet hose from Thermostat Housing with hose clamp pliers (J 38185). Take the Water Pump bolts out and Water Pump cover, before disconnecting the heater return hose. Insert the Water Pump remover & installer tool j 38816-a between Water Pump locking ears and lock it firmly while attaching the support plate to the water housing crossover for correct assembly. You can loosen the j 38816-a tool to pull the Water Pump from its housing. After that remove both the support plate and Water Pump components. Check the surface area of the water housing crossover and pump cover before looking inside the Water Pump. To install the seal, put it into the housing recess at 7 o'clock position and position the notched locking ear inside. Place the Water Pump locking ears into the water crossover tangs and lock the pump using the j 38816-a by turning it clockwise while tightening to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). First fit the Water Pump cover to the return hose. Then position the cover onto the water housing crossover and torques the bolts to 10 nm. Secure the radiator outlet hose in place with a j 38185 tool while putting on the Water Pump Drive Belt and Water Pump belt cover before setting the oil level indicator tube nut. Tighten the nut to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Complete the process with reinstalling the air injection control valve, air cleaner assembly, and top filler panel and adding coolant to the system.
