• Q: How to replace the water pump on 2001 Cadillac Eldorado?

  A: Before you replace the Water Pump you must empty the cooling system and detach four parts: the upper filler panel, air cleaner assembly, secondary air injection control valve, and oil level indicator tube nut. Begin by removing the fasteners on the Water Pump belt shield then the shield itself along with the Water Pump Drive Belt. You should take the radiator outlet hose away from the Thermostat Housing using hose clamp pliers (J 38185). After that, you need to remove the Water Pump cover bolts and keep the cover open. Put the Water Pump remover & installer (J 38816-A) on the Water Pump ears with the support plate locked onto the water housing crossover before starting removal steps. You can take off the Water Pump by turning the tool clockwise. Afterward, remove the support plate and the Water Pump separately. Clean both sealing areas of the water crossover parts and pump cover before checking the Water Pump condition. Place the seal inside its recessed position in the water housing crossover first and make sure the locking ear's notch points at 7 o'clock. When done, put the Water Pump's locking ears into position with the provided tangs. Reposition the j38816-a Water Pump remover & installer tool while fastening the support plate. Turn the tool counterclockwise until the Water Pump reaches 100 nm tightness (74 foot pounds). When free the support plate place the Water Pump cover on the heater return hose before mounting the cover to the water housing crossover and tightening bolts to 10 nm. Use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to link the radiator outlet hose to the Thermostat Housing. Then attach the Water Pump Drive Belt and place the Water Pump shield correctly before fastening it firmly at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Complete the setup by putting the oil level indicator tube nut to 10 nm (89 inch lbs) then assemble the secondary air injector control valve, air filter, and upper spout panel followed by filling the coolant system.
