Cadillac Seville Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on Cadillac Seville?
A: The Steering Knuckle replacement process starts by lifting and securing the vehicle followed by tire wheel removal then braking rotor removal and front Wheel Bearing and hub disassembly. Use the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J24319-B) to detach the tie rod from the Steering Knuckle. First remove the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle retaining nut. Start by taking out the retaining nut and cotter pin on the lower Ball Joint. Then use the Ball Joint separator (J43828) to separate the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle. You must unfasten all strut to Steering Knuckle mounting fasteners to extract the Steering Knuckle. Start by placing the Steering Knuckle to the strut end lower Ball Joint following the fastener notice in service precautions. Secure the strut onto the Steering Knuckle's mounting bolts while torquing them to 185 nm (136 ft. Lbs.). The installation of the lower Ball Joint retaining nut requires no backing off for proper cotter pin positioning. When attaching the outer tie rod to the steering column knuckle the lower Ball Joint retaining nut must reach 10 nm (88 inch lbs.) after adding an additional 180-300 degrees (3-5 flats) so that cotter pin alignment never exceeds 60 degrees. Secure the outer tie rod retaining nut by while torquing it to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Wheel Bearing followed by hub and brake rotor along with tire and wheel before performing a wheel alignment check.
