2001 Cadillac Seville Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the steering knuckle on 2001 Cadillac Seville?
A: Operations on a Steering Knuckle begin with vehicle lifiting and wheel support then progresses to tire removal and wheel detachment followed by brake rotor removal. Separation of the front Wheel Bearing hub occurs first followed by outer tie rod detachment from the Steering Knuckle through retaining nut removal while using steering linkage and tie rod puller (J24319-B). Use a Ball Joint separator (J 43828) to disengage the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle after removing its retaining nut and lower Ball Joint cotter pin. After removing all bolts and nuts between the Steering Knuckle and the strut you can remove the Steering Knuckle. During installation step up by joining the Steering Knuckle to the strut end lower Ball Joint but always keep track of the fastener directives. Place the strut onto the Steering Knuckle mounting bolts while tightening them to 185 nm (136 ft. Lbs.) and fasten the lower Ball Joint retaining nut in place. The outer tie rod should connect to the steering column knuckle through a lower Ball Joint retaining nut installed at 10 nm (88 inch lbs.) torque setting with 180-300 degrees (3-5 flats) of additional rotation to achieve proper cotter pin alignment. The last installation step is to put on the outer tie rod retaining nut and tighten it to 47 nm then proceed with Wheel Bearing and hub assembly, brake rotor and tire installation and finishing with a wheel alignment check. Users might need to utilize the hub and bearing puller (J 28733-B) while performing the steps.
