2001 Cadillac Seville Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2001 Cadillac Seville?
A: Start the suspension strut servicing process by collecting these required tools: service tools for suspension strut repair include holding fixture base assembly (J 3289-20), strut spring compressor (J 34013-B), damper rod clamp (J 34013-20), and alignment rod (J 34013-38). Holding fixture base assembly (J 3289-20), strut spring compressor (J 34013-B), damper rod clamp (J 34013-20), and alignment rod (J 34013-38). After removing the strut from the vehicle handle the suspension coil spring's surface coating with caution throughout the process. Thread the strut assembly within strut spring compressor (J 34013-B) before starting to turn the compressor screw until minimal spring compression occurs. Guide the strut shaft out of the strut assembly with the alignment rod (J 34013-38) while you loosen the compressor screw. Hold the strut shaft and remove the strut shaft nut before using the alignment rod. Loosen the compressor screw further until you can eliminate the strut and spring separately from the assembly. When installing the damper rod clamp (J 34013-20) onto the strut shaft within the strut compressor, position the spring correctly before elevating the assembly. Reinstall the bearing if removed while checking that the tab on the upper spring seat faces toward the assembly's inner portion. Guide the strut shaft using the alignment rod (J 34013-38) while rotating the compressor screw toward the clockwise direction until strut shaft threads become visible. Put the washer in place before you remove the damper rod clamp (J 34013-20) and secure the strut mount nut at 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). Before ending the procedure remove the strut from the strut compressor and re-install it on the vehicle.
