In order to work on servicing and repairing the tailgate release handle and the lock cylinder for the rear door outside, you start by removing the trim panel and the access cover, followed by the water deflector. To remove the control rod from the outside handle, pry out the clip anchor from its hole, push the clip out of the way, and pull the rod and clip out from the arrangement. Then, pull the outside handle nuts off and the outside handle removes and cuts off the license lamp wires, pulls off the license plate housing bolts and the housing, as well. After this, you must take out the door lock shield and continue to disconnect the control rod from the lock cylinder, repeating the process with the removal of the clips. Note: remove the lock cylinder retainer and the lock cylinder. For installation insert the clip to the lock cylinder, followed by inserting the lock cylinder into the door and fixed to the retainer. Reattach the control rod back to the lock cylinder via the clip then the door lock shield and license plate covering. You should take those license plate housing bolts and tighten them to 4 n.m (35 lb in) and for the license lamp bolts, to the same specification. Next, clip it on to the outside handle, attach the outside handle on to the door with the nuts tightened to 7 n.m (62 lb in). Finally, connect the control rod to the outside handle through the clip, install the water deflector, and once that is accomplished, finish by reattaching trim panel. Apply a coat of lubricant by gm p/n 12346241, canadian p/n 10953474, or equivalent at the inside of the lock case and the cylinder keyway prior to assembly.
