Q: What tools are required to service and repair the carrier bearings and replace the differential side bearings on a 9.75-inch axle differential bearing on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?
A: The following tools will be necessary to service both the carrier bearings and replace Differential side bearings found on a 9.75 inch axle: j22888-d side bearing remover kit and j24430 Differential side bearing installer and j36597 side bearing puller pilot - 9.25 inch and j45711 Differential side bearing remover - dana 248 and j45900 Differential side bearing installer - dana axles and j8092 universal driver handle - 3/4 inch - 10. The tools necessary to service and repair the carrier bearings and replace Differential side bearings on a 9.75-inch axle include the j22888-d side bearing remover kit along with the j24430 Differential side bearing installer and the j36597 side bearing puller pilot - 9.25 inch and the j45711 Differential side bearing remover - dana 248 and the j45900 Differential side bearing installer - dana axles as well as the j8092 universal driver handle - 3/4 inch - 10. Start the job by elevating the vehicle and disconnecting its Differential assembly from the chassis. The process requires using the j45711 and the j36597 to remove the Differential side bearing while applying the j45711 to a hydraulic press for extraction. Properly mark inboard shims with left and right indicators. Next, remove the inboard shims. Determine the shim thickness along with preload requirements before installing the Differential assembly. Protect the Differential case by affixing the j8107-3 alignment fixture to the side that does not have bearings before adding inboard shims and Differential side bearings. Position the Differential side bearing using the j24430 or the j45900 alongside the j8092 tool until it reaches its desired position. Keep using the same tool for this step. Finish by installing the Differential assembly and filling the axle with correct lubricating fluid and then returning the vehicle to the floor.
