    Q:
What tools are required to service and repair the carrier bearings and replace the differential side bearings on a 9.75-inch axle differential bearing on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
    A:
The following tools will be necessary to service both the carrier bearings and replace Differential side bearings found on a 9.75 inch axle: j22888-d side bearing remover kit and j24430 Differential side bearing installer and j36597 side bearing puller pilot - 9.25 inch and j45711 Differential side bearing remover - dana 248 and j45900 Differential side bearing installer - dana axles and j8092 universal driver handle - 3/4 inch - 10. The tools necessary to service and repair the carrier bearings and replace Differential side bearings on a 9.75-inch axle include the j22888-d side bearing remover kit along with the j24430 Differential side bearing installer and the j36597 side bearing puller pilot - 9.25 inch and the j45711 Differential side bearing remover - dana 248 and the j45900 Differential side bearing installer - dana axles as well as the j8092 universal driver handle - 3/4 inch - 10. Start the job by elevating the vehicle and disconnecting its Differential assembly from the chassis. The process requires using the j45711 and the j36597 to remove the Differential side bearing while applying the j45711 to a hydraulic press for extraction. Properly mark inboard shims with left and right indicators. Next, remove the inboard shims. Determine the shim thickness along with preload requirements before installing the Differential assembly. Protect the Differential case by affixing the j8107-3 alignment fixture to the side that does not have bearings before adding inboard shims and Differential side bearings. Position the Differential side bearing using the j24430 or the j45900 alongside the j8092 tool until it reaches its desired position. Keep using the same tool for this step. Finish by installing the Differential assembly and filling the axle with correct lubricating fluid and then returning the vehicle to the floor.

    Q:
How to replace the drive pinion bearings on 8.6 and 9.5 inch axles on GMC Savana 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
You need to begin drive Pinion Bearing replacement for 8.6 and 9.5 inch axles by lifting the vehicle before taking out the Differential assembly. Drive the removal of the drive Pinion Bearing from the 8.6 inch axle with the dt 47688 (Pinion Bearing Remover) through a press operation while the j 22912-b (Split Plate Bearing Installer) must be coupled with a press for 9.5 inch axle bearing replacement. You should start by removing the selective pinion shim before hitting the outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups of the axle housing with a hammer using a brass drift. The j 8611-01 (Rear Pinion Bearing Race Installer) serves for 8.6 inch axle installation but the 9.5 inch axle requires the j 8092 universal driver handle to fit the outer Pinion Bearing cup. Installation proceeds with the j 45780 Pinion Bearing cup installer for 8.6 inch axle and j 22306 pinion cup bearing installer-rear for 9.5 inch axle. Identify the appropriate shim size for the drive pinion before you install its shim followed by the j 22828 (Input/Counterbalance Race Installer) or j 36614 (Inner Pinion Bearing Installer) instrument to set the inner Pinion Bearing. Insert a new collapsible spacer before applying proper axle lubricant on the pinion bearings and mounting the outer Pinion Bearing within the axle housing. First install a new pinion oil seal with the j 22388 (Pinion Oil Seal Installer). Then position the pinion into its housing space with correct marking alignment. Finally apply a sealant to all pinion-yoke splines before yoke installation. A soft-faced hammer should be used to set the pinion yoke on the pinion shaft before you install a new pinion nut. The j 8614-01 (Flange and Pulley Holding Tool) must be utilized to tighten the pinion nut until the pinion end play is completely seated while rotating the pinion to properly install the bearings. Use an inch-pound torque wrench to measure the torque of bearing rotation with used bearings requiring 1.0-2.3 nm (10-20 lb in) and new bearings requiring 1.7-3.4 nm (15-30 lb in). Make adjustments to reach the required torque values. After reaching the defined torque value the technician must spin the pinion multiple times before reattaching the Differential assembly and completing the axle lubrication before lowering the vehicle.
