Position first the Wheel Hub and bearing with splash shield onto both 25/35 series vehicles then onto 15 series vehicles. For 8.6 inch axle, in the axle for pinion oil seal, that you need the axle pinion oil seal installer (J 21128) to ensure that it is properly seated in the axle tube. For the 9.75 inch axle, use rear axle bearing/seal installer (J 45853), which will also come in handy with universal driver handle (J 8092) to install the Axle Shaft seal that needs to be fully seated into the axle tube. Lastly, mount the Axle Shaft, spread lubricant in the rear axle before lowering the vehicle.

Take off the splash shield.

Remove the axle shaft.

Drive the axle shaft seal into the axle tube using the Differential Seal Installer - Inner (J 45177), the Camshaft Bearing Service Set (J 33049), and a hammer. Finally, reinstall the differential assembly, axle shafts, tire and wheel assembly, and lower the vehicle.

Use the J 29369-2 and J 2619-01 to remove the axle bearing.

Raise the vehicle and remove the tire and wheel assembly.

First, remove the wheel drive shaft and the swaybar link from the lower control arm.

Use the J 21128 - Axle pinion Oil Seal Installer.

Fill the differential carrier assembly with the correct fluid and lower the vehicle.

Assemble the drive bar extension onto the drive bar of J 33049 and insert it into the opposite side axle shaft tube. Install the J 45177 onto the J 33049 and insert the axle shaft seal into the axle tube.

Use the J 23690 to install the axle shaft bearing.

Insert the Slide Hammer with Adapter (J 2619-01) to pull the bearing out.

Use the J 29369-1 (8.25 inch axle) or J 29369-2 (9.25 inch axle) behind the inner axle shaft seal or bearing as needed, then attach the J 2619-01 to the J 29369-1 or J 29369-2 to remove the inner axle shaft seal or bearing.

Reassemble the inner axle shaft and clutch fork components, and install the assembly back into the differential carrier case.

Insert the axle shaft seal into the axle tube, then install the Differential Seal Installer - Inner (J 45177) and the Camshaft Bearing Service Set (J 33049) over the axle shaft seal, driving the seal into the axle tube using both tools and a hammer.

Reassemble the inner axle shaft and housing assembly, install the inner axle shaft seal cover, and tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). For Oldsmobile, carefully tap the left inner axle shaft into place with a soft mallet, then reinstall the wheel drive shaft, check the axle lubricant level, and lower the vehicle.

Use the J 29369-1 or J 29369-2 behind the inner axle shaft seal or bearing as needed, and attach the J 2619-01 to remove it.

Use either the J 29369-1 or J 29369-2 behind the inner axle shaft seal or bearing, then attach the J 2619-01 to the appropriate bushing and bearing remover to extract it.

Use the J 36609 and J 8092 to install the right side bearing, followed by the J 45225 and J 8092 for the new axle shaft seal.
