    Q:
What tools are required to service and repair the pinion bearing and replace the differential side bearings in the differential bearing on Chevrolet Blazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
The necessary tools for Pinion Bearing service and Differential side bearing replacement include j8092 universal driver handle (J8092), j21784 side bearing installer (J21784), j22888-d side bearing remover kit (J22888-D), j22912-01 split-plate bearing puller (J22912-01) and j25299 side bearing installer (J25299). You should start by removing the Differential assembly then place it into a vise for security. Remove Differential side bearings by using either j8107-2 (7.6 inch axle) or j8107-4 (8.6 inch axle) together with j22888-20a. Move the Differential assembly from the vise position when the removal process completes. The j8107-2 or j8107-4 presents direct bearing installation protection to the Differential case from its opposite side. Install the Differential case bearing with both the j25299 (7.6 inch axle) and its mating part j21784 (8.6 inch axle) together with the j8092. Drive the bearing onto the case by applying the j25299 or the j21784 and j8092 tools before the Differential assembly can be rebased.

    Q:
How to replace the drive pinion bearings on GMC Safari? Posted by Customer
    A:
The drive Pinion Bearing replacement process starts with vehicle elevation and Differential assembly and drive pinion removal from the axle. The split-plate bearing puller (J 22912-01) serves to remove the bearing from the pinion before you discard the shim. Extract both Pinion Bearing cups from the axle housing by using a hammer and brass drift to remove them in equal intervals. Install the outer Pinion Bearing cup with the outer bearing installer (J 7817) and universal driver handle (J 8092) while installing the inner Pinion Bearing cup with the rear Pinion Bearing cup installer (J 29609) together with the universal driver handle (J 8092). Secure the decided selective shim by positioning it next to the inner Pinion Bearing as it rests against the gear shoulder. The Pinion Bearing race installer tool (J 5590) should be used to install the inner Pinion Bearing until its cone seats properly on the shim while a new collapsible spacer should be placed afterward. After lubricating with proper axle lubricant apply the outer Pinion Bearing into its position inside the housing. The axle housing receives its new pinion oil seal through the pinion oil seal installer (J 33782) before insertion of the pinion shaft. Seal the pinion yoke splines with gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent before installing the yoke to the alignment marks previously set during removal. Hardware professionals should use a soft-faced hammer to tap the pinion yoke onto the pinion shaft until a few threads become visible from the yoke before installing the washer and new pinion nut. Use the flange and pulley holding tool (J 8614-01) on the pinion yoke and steadily tighten the pinion nut while maintaining grip on the tool to achieve the required pinion end play with its just taken up position. An inch-pound torque wrench should be used for measuring pinion torque to confirm the desired reading between 1.0 - 2.3 nm (10 - 20 inch lbs.) for used bearings or between 1.7 - 3.4 nm (15 - 30 inch lbs.) for new bearings. Maintain small pinion nut tightening steps until the torque measurement reaches within the allotted specification. The specified torque value should be reached by tightening the pinion nut followed by multiple rotational movements of the pinion to allow bearing installation then additional torque measurement might require adjustments. After completing the process close the Differential assembly before adding proper lubricant and returning the vehicle to ground position.
