Begin the procedure by raising the vehicle before you remove Differential and drive pinion from the axle. Tool j 22912-b should be used for bearing pressing off the pinion on the 8.0 inch axle. Users should employ j 45871 positioned around the Pinion Bearing together with inverted j 22912-b around j 45871 to press off the bearing for the 8.6 inch axle. The removal process includes hammering the shim and outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups free from the housing of the axle by using a brass drift. The outer Pinion Bearing cup requires application of j 7817 for 8.0 inch axles while 8.6 inch axles use j 8611-01 and 9.5 ld inch axles use j 7818 together with j 8092. Install the inner Pinion Bearing cup of the 9.5 ld inch axle using j 8608 and j 8092 together with j 22306. Establish the required selective shim dimension before mounting it in between the inner Pinion Bearing and gear shoulder. The installation requires an inner Pinion Bearing tool j 24433 or j 36614 to set the pinion cone on its match point at the pinion shim before adding new collapsible spacers and lubricating the pinion bearings. Begin by inserting the pinion into its housing and then adding both the outer Pinion Bearing and brand-new j 33782 pinion oil seal (or J 38694 for 8.6 inch axle and J 22388 for 9.5 LD inch axle). First apply sealant gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) around the pinion yoke splines before placing the yoke onto the pinion shaft. Apply j 8614-01 against the pinion yoke to stabilize it as you torque the new pinion nut all the way to the point the pinion end play becomes minimal. Check the pinion rotating torque to verify its compliance with the used or new bearing torque specifications and correct the measurements if necessary. Install the Differential after which you should fill the axle with lubricant before lowering the vehicle.
