2007 GMC Canyon Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What tools are required to replace the drive pinion bearings in the rear drive axle on 2007 GMC Canyon?
A: Different tools are necessary to replace the drive pinion bearings in the rear drive axle including j 7817 (Outer Bearing Race Installer), j 8092 (Universal Driver Handle-3/4 in - 10), j 8608 (Rear Pinion Bearing Race Installer), j 8611-01 (Rear Pinion Bearing Race Installer), j 8614-01 (Flange and Pulley Holding Tool), j 22912-b (Split-Plate Bearing Puller), j 24433 (Pinion Cone and Side Bearing Installer), j 33782 (Pinion Oil Seal Installer), and j 386 start by lifting the vehicle then detach the Differential together with drive pinion from the axle. The j 22912-b tool should be used to extract the bearing from the pinion while you remove the shim and both bearing cups together with a hammer striking a brass drift. The installation process requires j 7817 and j 8092 tools for the outer Pinion Bearing cup while j 8608 alongside j 8092 tools should be used for the inner cup. The selective shim requires installation between the inner Pinion Bearing and the gear shoulder before adding the Pinion Bearing using the j 24433 instrumentation. Place a new collapsible spacer inside before applying Pinion Bearing lubrication then putting the pinion into its intended position within the axle housing. You should install the outer Pinion Bearing together with a new pinion oil seal using the j 33782. Apply gm p/n 12346004 sealant (Canadian P/N 10953480) to the pinion yoke splines before installation of the yoke into position while aligning it with pre-existing removal marks. Take the yoke and place it on the pinion shaft using a soft-faced hammer before adding the washer plus fresh pinion nut. Tighten the nut of the j 8614-01 first before rotating the pinion to seat the bearings when you just achieve the desired pinion end play with the yoke firmly held in the tool's jaws. A properly calibrated inch-pound torque wrench should be used to measure the rotating torque because it must fall within the acceptable values for used or new bearings. Small pinion nut tightening steps should be performed to reach the correct torque before rotating the pinion through several turns for proper bearing seating. Close the installation of the Differential while maintaining the proper lubricant inside the axle and finally lowering the vehicle.
