Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the lower intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?
A: Begin replacement of the lower intermediate Steering Shaft when both Steering Column lock is active and front wheels maintain a straight-ahead position to protect the sir coil assembly from damage. Put the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the lower Steering Column access hole for component alignment reference before proceeding with proper installation. Begin by removing the bolt that connects the upper to lower shafts then unfasten the lower shaft coupler bolt afterwards slide the intermediate shaft assembly forward toward the dash to extract the lower shaft coupler away from the steering gear input shaft. Before attachment install the new intermediate shaft components into the upper shaft and lower shaft coupler following previous recording marks for optimal reinstallation. Place the steering gear worm shaft end of the intermediate shaft coupler before securing both the lower shaft coupler bolt and the upper shaft end bolt. Completely tighten both the upper bolt and the coupler pinch bolt to 47 n.m (35 lb ft) measurements before removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column lower access hole.
