Chevrolet Blazer Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on Chevrolet Blazer?
A: You should start by placing a drain pan beneath the vehicle before removing the air cleaner assembly. Start by removing the Power Steering Pump pulley followed by detaching both the power steering pressure hose from the power steering gear alongside removing the power steering cooler hose from the pump. Extract the air reactor pipe by removing its lower retaining nut from the check valve then disconnecting it from the lower reactor tube. The Power Steering Pump requires the removal of its filler neck tube mounting bolt and filler neck tube components followed by disconnecting the rear mounting-bracket nut that anchors to the engine stud and the front mounting bolts securing the Power Steering Pump. Accessors should remove the Power Steering Pump and pressure hose after they loosen bracket fasteners and advance the bracket forward so they can reinstall these components correctly. The attachment procedure for the power steering pressure hose starts by installing it onto the pump before securing it at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Power Steering Pump together with its pressure hose into the vehicle before setting the pump bracket in position and securing all mounting bolts and nut to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Follow the mounting bolt installation of the front section to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.), then perform the rear mounting bracket nut tightening step by securing it to the engine stud at 41 nm (31 ft. Lbs.). The procedure requires installation of the filler neck tube while adding its mounting bolt and achieving 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) torque. The lower secondary air injection reactor pipe requires connection to the check valve and mounting of its bracket to the pump bracket stud with subsequent tightening of the retaining nut to 41 nm (31 ft. Lbs.). The lower secondary air injection reactor pipe needs installation to its check valve while power steering cooler hose gets connected to the pump and the power steering pressure hose gets connected to the gear. The repair work ends with replacing the power steering pulley while reinstating the air cleaner followed by pan removal and power steering system filling until complete bleeding before inspecting hoses for proper frame and component clearance.
