Chevrolet Camaro Alternator Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the alternator on Chevrolet Camaro?
A: To remove the generator, disconnect the negative Battery Cable and accessory Drive Belt, remove it. Unplug the generator electrical connector and lift the boot on the positive cable to expose the positive terminal stud and remove the cable nut from the generator output stud and the cable off the generator. In the next step, extract the canister purge solenoid, the generator rear brace bolt, and the generator bolts (2, 3) before you get the generator off the Drive Belt tensioner. For installation, position the generator back on to the Drive Belt tensioner install the generator bolts (2, 3), tighten bolt to 30 n.m (22 lb ft) and bolt to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) to relieve stress from tensioner, more especially springs, when reassembling the front cover (1). Replace the generator brace bolt and tighten it to 30 n.m (22 lb ft) and reinstall the canister purge solenoid. Connect the positive cable to generator output stud and tighten it with the positive cable nut and tighten it to 22 n.m (16 lb ft) then wipe the boot over the generator output stud. Attach the electric connector to the generator, reattach the accessory Drive Belt, and finally, tie up the negative Battery Cable.
