To remove the drum Brake Backing Plate, raise and support the vehicle, then remove the tire and wheel assembly, then remove the
Brake Drum and
Brake Shoes. Next, disconnect the universal spring from the Brake Backing Plate and remove the rear park break cable end fitting off the drum Brake Backing Plate. Here is how to remove the
Wheel Cylinder and the wheel bearing/hub assembly prior to removing the Brake Backing Plate. For installation, start by mounting the new Brake Backing Plate, and re-fitting the hub/wheel bearing, wheel cylinder. Mount the rear park brake cable end fitting to the Brake Backing Plate ensuring that the retention tabs are locked by trying to pull the rear park brake cable without success. Next, mount the universal spring onto the backing plate, brake shoes, and adjust the drum brakes. After that, have it the Brake Drum, bleed the hydraulic brake system, and then reinstall the tire and assembly, before lowering the vehicle.
