Chevrolet Cavalier Brake Calipers Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: A caliper piston seal installer bearing the code j29077-a is essential for caliper brake repair work. Detach the brake caliper from the vehicle using tools and release the Brake Caliper Piston from the bore by passing weak compressed air through the fluid inlet hole. Utilize a small plastic or wooden item to take the piston dust boot seal out from the sealing recess of the caliper. Then remove and discard the piston seal from the caliper bore. Disconnect the caliper bleeder valve and its dust cap. Use denatured alcohol or equivalent to clean the Brake Caliper Piston bore seal counterbore and piston. Dry the parts using filtered non-lubricated air. Study the caliper opening for damages like cracks, scoring, away and rust presence. Light rust buildup can be brushed off with fine sandpaper while heavy damage demands a new part set. Check the caliper piston for cracks and assess any damage to chrome plating before replacing it with a new part. Apply delco supreme ii brake fluid (GM P/N 12377967) or its equivalent from a sealed clean container to the piston seal. Install the lubricated piston seal into the caliper bore before placing both the caliper piston and its dust boot seal. Install the new piston dust boot seal onto the piston then position the caliper piston seal installer tool j29077-a to press-fit the dust boot seal firmly. Reconnect the front brake caliper to its position by tightening its bleeder valve before installing a caliper cap properly.
