Chevrolet Classic Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on Chevrolet Classic?
A: Begin by installing an engine support fixture then lift your vehicle into position. The lower AC compressor bolts need removal along with the upper AC compressor bolts and left side frame bolts before extracting the right side frame bolts. Drain the engine oil first. The bolts that secure the oil pan need removal before the oil pan can be extracted from the vehicle. Clean both the mounting surface on the lower crankcase and the oil pan until they remain free of debris and oil residue. Put a 2 mm bead of RTV (GM P/N United States 12346286, GM P/N Canada 10953472) around the oil pan edges and suction port opening while taking care not to apply too much material. Place the oil pan into position before applying torque on all bolts according to their specified notice. Torque the oil pan fasteners until they achieve 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Next tighten the frame bolts on both sides before installing the AC compressor hardware. After lowering the vehicle users should remove the engine support fixture and add the correct amount of engine oil.
