How to Service and Repair the Cruise Control Switch on Chevrolet Equinox?

Starting replacement of the cruise control release switch requires removal of both the instrument panel left lower closeout panel and the knee bolster. Remove the cruise brake switch connector before turning the switch counterclockwise to remove it from the switch retainer. Press the Brake Pedal down to make the process simpler. To detach the cruise brake retainer, gently push down the locking tabs and remove it from the Brake Pedal assembly. Install the component by locating the indexing arrow to the right side while extending the retainer ears fully to block installation of the parts. Every effort should be made to refrain from braking the pedal while installing the cruise brake switch retainer through the top pedal assembly hole because it will cause brake drag. The cruise brake switch should enter the retainer so its electrical connector index notch points toward the 1 o'clock mark and the plunger reaches full depression before turning clockwise to reach about 60 degrees of rotation. Switch inspection should confirm proper retention in the retainer with the index notch aligned at the 3 o'clock position before adding the cruise brake switch harness connector. Put back the knee bolster together with the instrument panel left lower closeout panel. To check the correct reading of applied and released states the scan tool must display cruise brake switch data from the Engine Control Module (ECM) general information table during Brake Pedal depression and release cycles.
