The first step when swapping out the cruise control release switch involves taking off the instrument panel left lower closeout panel and the knee bolster. First disconnect the cruise brake switch connector before turning the cruise brake switch counterclockwise to free it from the switch retainer slot; you can use the Brake Pedal to help reach the tab. The brake activation press will help reveal the locking tabs on the retainer. A gentle application of force to the locking tabs on the cruise brake retainer allows you to extract it from the Brake Pedal assembly. When installing the component make sure the indexing arrow points toward the right while both retainer ears remain extended to stop accidental push-out. Before placing the cruise brake switch retainer into the Brake Pedal assembly upper hole position at three o'clock it is essential to avoid pressing the Brake Pedal to prevent brake drag. Insert the cruise brake switch into the retainer's electrical connector index notch at 1 o'clock. Depress the plunger until it reaches full depression before rotating the switch clockwise to the 60-degree travel stop. Attach the cruise brake switch harness connector after double-checking it securely sits in the retainer with the electrical connector index notch at the 3 o'clock position. Reinstall both the knee bolster and the instrument panel left lower closeout panel. The last stage involves checking cruise brake switch in the Engine Control Module (ECM) general information data table with the scan tool to verify applied and released states when you depress and release the Brake Pedal.

Starting replacement of the cruise control release switch requires removal of both the instrument panel left lower closeout panel and the knee bolster. Remove the cruise brake switch connector before turning the switch counterclockwise to remove it from the switch retainer. Press the Brake Pedal down to make the process simpler. To detach the cruise brake retainer, gently push down the locking tabs and remove it from the Brake Pedal assembly. Install the component by locating the indexing arrow to the right side while extending the retainer ears fully to block installation of the parts. Every effort should be made to refrain from braking the pedal while installing the cruise brake switch retainer through the top pedal assembly hole because it will cause brake drag. The cruise brake switch should enter the retainer so its electrical connector index notch points toward the 1 o'clock mark and the plunger reaches full depression before turning clockwise to reach about 60 degrees of rotation. Switch inspection should confirm proper retention in the retainer with the index notch aligned at the 3 o'clock position before adding the cruise brake switch harness connector. Put back the knee bolster together with the instrument panel left lower closeout panel. To check the correct reading of applied and released states the scan tool must display cruise brake switch data from the Engine Control Module (ECM) general information table during Brake Pedal depression and release cycles.
