Chevrolet Metro Thermostat Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the thermostat on Chevrolet Metro?
A: Service and repair work on the Thermostat starts by draining the engine cooling system until it reaches a level that is beneath the Thermostat housing. The hose clamp release method allows removal of the upper Radiator Hose from the Thermostat housing cap for both 1.3l and 1.0l engine types. Remove the two retaining bolts that hold the water outlet to the housing. After that remove the Thermostat and gasket from the Thermostat housing. The inspection of the Thermostat air bleed valve must verify its clear condition because blocked valves could result in engine overheating. A visual examination of the valve seat should confirm that no foreign objects block correct seated position. Check that the Thermostat functions properly. Add the Thermostat and new gasket to the housing before you connect the water outlet. A 1.3l engine requires hose clamp security around the hose and proper installation of the water outlet using two retaining bolts tightened to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). The Thermostat cap requires attachment with a hose clamp to secure the upper Radiator Hose for 1.0l engines. The cooling system requires a final topping off with fluid.
