Chevrolet Metro Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the rear wheel bearing and hub on Chevrolet Metro?
A: Start the Wheel Bearing and hub service by lifting and stabilizing the vehicle. Detach the wheel and tire at the rear of the vehicle. When working on wheel hubs you should extract their two recessed screws and remove the Brake Drum. Twist the Spindle Nut dust cap out with a pointed instrument. When Wheel Hub bearings show defects on vehicles with a Wheel Hub system you must replace both components together because they cannot be serviced separately. Loosen the Spindle Nut by its stake and take out its washer. You should tap the Brake Drum/hub smoothly with a hammer to separate it from the spindle without a Wheel Hub installed. Put the Brake Drum/hub assembly onto wooden blocks of a stable work surface. Use a hammer to push the inner bearing from the outboard side of the Brake Drum/hub assembly into a bearing spacer. Secure the spacer to make hammer points from the inboard side. Drive the inboard bearing out of its location using the same punch method as before you take out the spacer. Check the bearings for damage and impurities before replacing them if any signs of wear or rust are visible. Install the outboard opposite Wheel Bearing using the j 34842 rear Wheel Bearing installer with driver handle j 7079-2. Insert the outer bearing through the break drum/hub with the j 34842 and j 7079-2 while positioning the spacer lip in contact with the inner bearing. Place the bearing spacer on the outer bearing with its inner edges facing outward and insert the inside bearing into the inboard side the same way. For vehicles without abs you connect the Brake Drum assembly to spindle interface; vehicles with abs receive their Wheel Hub. Set the washer and Spindle Nut onto the knuckle spindle then apply 170 nm (120 ft. Lbs.) torque level to Wheel Hub equipped vehicles and 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) torque level to non-wheel hub equipped vehicles. Follow with a tasking process of the Spindle Nut. Screw the Spindle Nut dust cap into place and connect the Brake Drum to its screws with wheel hubs. Put back the rear tire and wheel unit and lower the vehicle to its normal position.
