Chevrolet Metro Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair brake shoes on Chevrolet Metro?
A: You must first remove the drum before you can access the shoe hold-down springs by turning their respective hold-down pins and remove each of these parts along with the shoe return springs, shoe linings, and adjuster. Detach the Parking Brake Cable from its connection to the lever before you can remove clip, shim, pin and lever from the shoe. Check all components belonging to the drum brakes for signs of wear together with distortions and cracks. Apply gm p/n 1050109 white lithium grease from lubriplate to all brake component metal contact areas on the backing plate and Wheel Cylinder and adjustment strut and where the Brake Shoe metal touches these components. The first step starts with attaching the lever to the rear shoe through a clip and pin as well as a shim for stabilization. Begin by applying lubriplate gm p/n 1050109 white lithium grease to metal contact points then install shoe return springs and shoe linings before installing the adjuster component and lastly position the shoe hold-down springs and rotate the hold-down pins to complete the installation process with drum components.
