Chevrolet Metro Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the parking brake cable on Chevrolet Metro?
A: Service repairs on the parking brake cable begin by taking out the parking brake lever trim bezel. Use a spanner tool to loosen the adjuster nut situated on the parking brake lever assembly before disconnecting the parking brake cable from the equalizer plate. The vehicle requires elevation before you can remove its rear tires along with their corresponding wheels. The repair begins with removing the guide brackets from the cable followed by taking out the cable grommet from the floor pan to extract the cable. Disassemble the drums before unfastening the parking brake cable from its attachment on the shoe lever. Squeeze the parking brake cable retainer with pliers and remove the cable from the backing plate. The installation process requires a parking brake cable to be inserted into the backing plate before using a cable retainer for securing it into place. Follow these steps to install the cable on the shoe lever before reattaching the floor pan while correctly positioning the grommet. Place the two guide brackets on the cable followed by bolting them securely using bolts and tightening the parking brake cable guide bracket bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Put back the drum and afterward place rear tires and wheel assemblies before dropping the vehicle back down. After attaching the equalizer plate hook of the parking brake cable and performing an adjustment you should install the parking brake lever trim bezel.
