How to Service and Repair the Brake Backing Plate on Chevrolet Metro?

Start by removing the Wheel Cylinder before performing any work on the backing plate. Start by loosening the Brake Backing Plate Parking Brake Cable attachment through plier pressure on the cable retainer . The Wheel Bearing needs removal if the drum has no hub installed. The Brake Backing Plate must be separated from the suspension knuckle by first unscrewing the four mounting bolts. The installation process requires gm p/n 12346240 or equivalent material to apply on both Brake Backing Plate surfaces and suspension knuckle surfaces followed by fastener notice instructions for servicing. Screw the installed Brake Backing Plate onto the knuckle by tightening all four bolts to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Install the Wheel Bearing first before attaching and retaining the Parking Brake Cable to the Brake Backing Plate. The last step involves putting back the Wheel Cylinder while performing brake bleeds.
