Chevrolet Prizm Steering Column Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What steps should be taken before disconnecting the steering column and its components to ensure proper alignment and prevent damage on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Lock the Steering Column before starting any removal process on Steering Column components including Steering Shaft coupling and intermediate shaft and lower Steering Shaft. After components removal users need to keep the front wheels and tires stationary to minimize both steering misalignment and damage to the sir coil. Apply a match mark to both the Steering Shaft coupling and pinion shaft of the steering gear. To separate the coupling from the gear pinion shaft and vehicle remove the upper bolt and lower bolt from the coupling and slide the coupling onto the column shaft. The match mark from your previous coupling needs to be copied onto your new Steering Shaft coupling before installation. Position the coupling onto the Steering Column shaft after you align its match marks. Slide the coupling onto the steering gear pinion shaft. Couples the coupling with both upper and lower bolts using 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.) torque.
