The crankshaft will stay intact by putting a brief bolt of similar threads than crankshaft balancer bolt before operating the balancer removal tool. The crankshaft balancer bolt with washer requires removal before you proceed to take out the bolts and Crankshaft Pulley. The procedure to extract the crankshaft balancer requires balancer remover and installer (J 23523-F) implementation with the steps including installation of j 23523-f plate and bolts followed by tightening bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), and subsequent clockwise rotation of j 23523-f forcing screw. Clean the crankshaft balancer with cleaning solvent before air-drying it while inspecting for loose front groove pins and damage to the crankshaft front oil sealing surface and deteriorated rubber material between the hub and outer ring as well as keyway wear and bolt hole thread damage. To use the oil seal again apply light grease to its sealing surface while positioning the front groove pin in the correct way. Put adhesive gm p/n 12346141 or equivalent on the crankshaft balancer keyway before you position it correctly with the crankshaft key and fit the balancer onto the crankshaft. The j 23523-f tool enables installation of the crankshaft balancer while plate bolt torques to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) before adding bearing and washer with nut installation following clockwise rotation until the reluctor ring makes contact with the hub. Space the j 23523-f tool, fit the Crankshaft Pulley with its bolts while tightening to 58 nm (43 ft. Lbs.), check the crankshaft balancer washer crown orientation points toward the engine exterior while installing both washer and bolt then torque the balancer bolt to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Drive Belt while also conducting the Fan Shroud assembly installation followed by negative Battery Cable reconnection.
