How to replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor on Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic?

Draining the cooling system until it reaches a level that's lower than the sensor marks the first step toward replacing the engine coolant temperature sensor. Detach the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector yet protect the coolant sensor at all times because damage to it will alter the fuel control system's performance. Disassemble the ECT sensor before reusing it and cover all threads with GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480). The sensor needs lubricant (equivalent sealant with same properties). Secure the ECT sensor by using 20 N.m of torque (15 lb ft of torque). Electrical connections of the ECT sensor must be restored before performing cooling system fluid addition. Replace components with parts that match the application's designated part numbers and apply specified torques to prevent damage.
