Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the power steering pump on a 4.3L engine on Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Before replacing the Power Steering Pump on a 4.3l engine users must put a drain pan below the pump and remove the power steering pulley. Start by disconnecting power steering return hoses (2,4) from the pump before removing the power steering rear mounting bracket nut from the engine stud and then Power Steering Pump mounting bolts. The replacement process starts with accessory bracket bolt removal and its accompanying nut before forward motion of the bracket to extract the Power Steering Pump from the vehicle. First detach the power steering pressure hose from the pump while also separating the nuts from the Power Steering Pump rear bracket. After mounting the Power Steering Pump rear bracket on the pump, fasten it with nuts which require tightening to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Attach the power steering pressure hose to the pump by fastening its fitting until torque reaches 28 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). The first step involves securing the Power Steering Pump mounting bolts at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) then attaching the power steering rear mounting bracket nut to the engine stud until it becomes tight at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs). Reinstall the power steering return hoses and retaining clamps (3,5) onto the pump before readjusting the accessory mounting bracket for installation of its bolts and tightening the bracket bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and the nut to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). The final steps include installing the power steering pulley followed by filling and making necessary bleeding processes on the power steering system.
