Remove the ECT sensor from its location after disconnecting the ECT sensor electrical connector. During installation of new sensors always verify that the correct application-specific part number is used. Before reinstalling an old sensor wipe its threads with GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or similar sealant material. Tighten the installed ECT sensor to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Electrical ECT sensor connector needs reattachment before cooling system reservoir refilling. While handling the coolant sensor it's important to exercise caution because sensor damage can cause fuel control system malfunctions. Follow manufacturer guidelines when using thread locking compound and lubricants and corrosion inhibitors and sealants because incorrect application affects torque results and component functionality.
