Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic Starter Solenoid Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Starter Solenoid on Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic?
    A:
In order to replace the Starter motor solenoid, take out the Starter motor and relocate the m-terminal stud weather cover. The 5-last step is to try to clean the epoxy coating from the m-terminal stud, loosening the m-terminal stud nut and removing the cable from m-terminal stud. Then take out the solenoid bolts and separate solenoids from the housing, disconnecting solenoid plunger from the drive gear lever. Please observe the way in which the spring is located against the drive gear lever and also observe the way in which the drive gear lever is located inside the solenoid plunger loop. Remove the solenoid housing and the solenoid plunger and spring if necessary. For installment, if there is a need for it, install the solenoid plunger and spring, and then apply three bond silicone 1207b, gm p/n 97720043, around the attachment of the starters solenoid area. It will ensure the drive gear lever is well fitted into the solenoid plunger loop so as to prevent abnormal operation of the Starter. Install the solenoid, accompanied by driving of the drive gear lever that fits into the solenoid plunger loop placing the handle lever by pull the lever out and the plunger out from the Starter housing there by tipping the solenoid and push it against the housing. Mount the solenoid bolts and tighten them further to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Clean out any extra silicone near the base of the solenoid for a waterproof seal. Hook up the cable to the m-terminal stud between the washers and terminal nut, tightening the m-terminal stud nut to 8 n.m (71 lb in. Cap the m-terminal stud connection by use of three bond silicone 1207b or gm p/n 97720043, and reset the m-terminal stud weather cover on the studs. Test the Starter bench on a free-run condition, then install the Starter motor.
