Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Parking Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on the 25/35 Series on Chevrolet Silverado 3500?
A: The first step to replace a park brake shoe on the 25/35 series requires tucking away the park brake cable for the 1500hd by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and removing it from the equalizer bar and disabling the automatic adjuster on the park brake cable for the 25/35 series. Start by supporting the vehicle at proper height then take away the tire and wheel from its position. Removing the cable from the backing plate requires compressing the spring with lever push action and releasing the locking tabs to extract the cable housing from the plate and finally pulling the cable out of its slot in the plate. First loose the park brake cable from the lever and then extract both the rotor and rear Axle Shaft. Start by removing the park brake shoe return spring then follow with the park brake shoe anchor springs and pins afterwards remove the tips of the shoes from the park brake actuator in order to uninstall the park brake shoes and adjuster assembly. Begin by cleaning all debris and dust from park brake parts using a clean shop cloth before installing the adjuster assembly to the shoes and differentiating the shoe tips and finally attaching the shoes to their actuator. First install all park brake shoe anchor springs and pins before adding the park brake shoe return spring then perform the park brake shoe adjustment. Replace the rotor with the rear Axle Shaft before connecting the park brake cable onto its lever. The cable installation requires compressing the spring through forward lever pressure followed by slot routing of the cable before pushing cable housing into the backing plate until lock tabs secure. To complete the procedure you must reinstall the tire and wheel after which remove safety stands then lower the vehicle lastly enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster while the 1500hd requires you to install the park brake cable to the equalizer by pulling down the cable before the equalizer and installing it to the equalizer bar followed by park brake cable adjustment.
