Chevrolet SSR Cup Holder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to use the J 45999 tool to replace a Cup Holder on Chevrolet SSR?
A: The J 45999 (Cup/Coin Holder Removal Tool) should be used exclusively when replacing a cup holder to protect the right knee bolster trim from damage. You should start by pushing the cup holder to create an opening then taking out the faceplate of the cup holder. Both J 45999 tools should be inserted until the scribe lines disappear from view. The tool set needs insertion in their respective openings where the handle is directed up into the space between the cup holder and instrument panel (I/P) trim to release upper plastic retaining tabs. The second tool requires a downward facing handle position for bottom plastic retaining tab release. The cup holder can be taken out from the I/P trim while both tools remain in position. The cup holder removal process requires first unclipping the coin holder faceplate with a flat plastic tool before using J 45999 tools to remove the cup holder. Users should align the cup holder with the I/P trim plastic retaining tabs before inserting it towards the tabs and securing the tabs in their place before final faceplate installation.
