    Start with service and repair of the automatic transmission select lever by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable then placing the manual selector in neutral position. The console removal requires removing screws 1,6,3,4 and clips 2,5 and disconnecting the shift lock solenoid connector from under the carpet and the shift indicator lamp. Raise the vehicle while supporting it properly after you remove the 4 bolts which hold the manual selector to the floor. Remove the retaining clip as well as the washer and shift select cable from the manual shift lever and the select cable locknut. A thorough inspection of the shift select cable must be done for both fraying and kinks before replacing it. Begin the procedure by uncrossing the 2 knob screws and knob and the select indicator assembly and select lever assembly. Reinstating begins with installing the select lever assembly and select indicator assembly before fastening the knob and its screws. Place the manual shift lever into the low position before installing the shift select cable into its bracket on the transmission and fastening it except by tightening the locknut.
