Chevrolet Trailblazer Engine Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the Engine Control Module (ECM) on Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The first step for ecm service requires deciding whether the user needs to replace or program the eeprom. Check the ecm to verify the part installation matches requirements before unhooking the negative Battery Cable together with all engine wiring harness electrical connectors attached to the ecm. The procedure to remove the ecm and bracket assembly from intake manifold studs requires first removing ecm bracket nuts and bolts before extracting the ecm and bracket assembly from its position. Remove the ecm by taking off its bracket retainers and then dislodging it from bracket attachment. Before removing the ecm bracket the technician must remove bracket bolts as well as bracket nuts before detaching the bracket from intake manifold studs. Install the ecm bracket onto the intake manifold studs by using bolts and nuts which need to be tightened to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Place the ecm on the bracket while verifying complete retainer engagement. Reinstall the intake manifold studs with bolts and nuts that must be torqued to 9 n.m (80 lb in) when securing them. The wiring harness should be connected to the electrical connectors of ecm and to the negative Battery Cable. Programming the new ecm will be necessary after installation. A scan tool must program the engine oil lifetime estimation into the system to prevent the default 100 percent setting and force an oil change at 5000 km (3,000 mi) from the previous service.
