The procedure to change an Exhaust Manifold on a 4.2l engine starts by elevating the vehicle followed by disassembly of exhaust pipe bolts from the Exhaust Manifold. Once you lower the vehicle you should remove the manifold heat shield. Secondly you need to remove the Exhaust Manifold bolts while taking out both the Exhaust Manifold and its gasket. Place a new gasket on the Exhaust Manifold followed by installation of the manifold. The technician should use threadlock gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to apply on the manifold bolts before installation. The procedure calls for bolting the manifold at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) during the first, second, and final pass. Install the Exhaust Manifold heat shield studs after tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After raising your car once more you need to mount the exhaust pipe to the manifold with a seal using nuts that you will tighten up to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.
