The first step for Exhaust Manifold replacement on the llv (2.9L) requires exhaust seal elimination. The first step is to remove the exhaust seal then proceed with removing the Exhaust Manifold heat shield followed by the Exhaust Manifold bolts. You can remove the Exhaust Manifold assembly and its attached gasket after disconnecting all the parts listed above. Then dispose of the gasket. You must start by installing a new Exhaust Manifold gasket onto the Cylinder Head before correctly positioning the Exhaust Manifold. Before installing the bolts apply threadlock gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to their threads. To achieve proper fastening of the Exhaust Manifold bolts follow a sequence while tightening them to 20 nm (15 lb ft) three times. Reattach both the exhaust seal along with the Exhaust Manifold heat shield.

The procedure to change an Exhaust Manifold on a 4.2l engine starts by elevating the vehicle followed by disassembly of exhaust pipe bolts from the Exhaust Manifold. Once you lower the vehicle you should remove the manifold heat shield. Secondly you need to remove the Exhaust Manifold bolts while taking out both the Exhaust Manifold and its gasket. Place a new gasket on the Exhaust Manifold followed by installation of the manifold. The technician should use threadlock gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to apply on the manifold bolts before installation. The procedure calls for bolting the manifold at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) during the first, second, and final pass. Install the Exhaust Manifold heat shield studs after tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After raising your car once more you need to mount the exhaust pipe to the manifold with a seal using nuts that you will tighten up to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.

Install the new gasket and bolts, tightening them initially to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) starting with the center 2 bolts and alternating side-to-side.

Secure it with nuts tightened to 50 N.m (37 lb ft) before lowering the vehicle.

Reinstall the spark plugs.

Raise the vehicle again to install the exhaust manifold pipe nuts, tightening them to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) before lowering the vehicle.

Take out the heat shield bolts and the heat shield from the exhaust manifold.

Unscrew the three bolts and the shield from the exhaust manifold.

Raise the vehicle again to install the exhaust manifold pipe nuts, tightening them to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.), and then lower the vehicle.

Place a new exhaust manifold gasket onto the cylinder head and position the exhaust manifold accordingly.

First, raise and support the vehicle.

Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488).

Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) for the first, second, and final passes.

Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield, followed by the exhaust manifold bolts and the exhaust manifold itself, along with the exhaust manifold gasket.
