The replacement process for Rack And Pinion outer Tie Rod End starts by performing vehicle wheel and tire removal while lifting and supporting it. The outer tie rod retaining nut needs removal and discarding but ensure the steering linkage joint stays connected by placing a wedge between it and the attached portion to prevent seal damage. The outer tie rod requires tool j 24319-b to disconnect from the Steering Knuckle before the jam nut loosens and the outer tie rod is detached from the inner tie rod so the jam nut is discarded. Check that the shaft has no bent or damaged threading before cleaning the tapered face of the Steering Knuckle. The first step preceding new outer tie rod installation requires a suitable chassis lubricant coating on the inner tie rod threads which must receive the new jam nut placement and assembly of the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod. Place the Steering Knuckle-end of the new outer tie rod and tighten its retaining nut to 57 n.m (42 lb ft). Lower the vehicle after reinstalling the tire before completing the adjustment of the front toe.
