GMC Safari Wheel Hub Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front wheel bearing, wheel hub, and wheel seal on GMC Safari?
    A:
After raising the vehicle you must remove the tire and wheel followed by the brake rotor before proceeding to the hub replacement. After you disengage the wheel drive shaft from the wheel hub and bearing use a hammer to tap the end of a brass drift kept against the wheel drive shaft in its outer position to avoid pulling it out. First disconnect the Wheel Speed Sensor bolt before taking off the Wheel Speed Sensor and wheel hub bearing pieces from the bolts and splash shield. Start with the wheel hub and bearing positioning and move on to add the Wheel Speed Sensor while installing its mounting bolt afterward before placing the splash shield. Use a torque wrench to fasten wheel hub and bearing bolts to 90 nm (66 ft. Lbs.) and wheel drive shaft nut to 200 nm (147 ft. Lbs.). Place the brake rotor back in its position and restore the tire assembly through the wheel before letting the vehicle down to the ground.
