Operation on the Muffler demands workers to wear protective goggles alongside gloves while observing all exhaust service requirements. The complete unit combining the
Exhaust Pipe with the Tail Pipe serves as a Muffler system which requires lifting of agricultural vehicle frames to position aftermarket tail pipes lower than the rear axle. Begin by raising the vehicle. Owners with a 4.3l, 5.0l or 5.7l engine and a single
Catalytic Converter pipe must eliminate the Muffler flange retaining nuts. Tighten the clamp on right catalytic converters while removing left Catalytic Converter retaining nuts from the Muffler flange for 5.0l or 5.7l dual Catalytic Converter vehicles and 8.1l motors. To remove the Exhaust Pipe from the Muffler flange on vehicles with a 6.5l engine use a tool to detach the retaining nuts. Your vehicle's wheelbase determines which removal procedure applies to separate the Muffler assembly. Two persons must help remove the exhaust hanger insulator pins from 4.3l, 5.0l, and 5.7l engines with a 135-inch wheelbase and full body style because of the assembly's weight. Drill the Muffler assembly above the rear axle and pull it forward. Follow steps 1 through 5 to support the right rear axle with a jack stand, reduce shock absorber tension, remove the right lower shock absorber bolt and nut, then lower the axle before removing the Muffler assembly from 155-inch wheelbase vehicles. To service the rear axle of 5.7l, 6.5l, and 8.1l engines with wheelbases of 139 inches, 159 inches, and 177 inches which utilize cutaway body designs you must support the axle, remove the tire and wheel assembly then disassemble the rear spring u-bolts and nuts along with the anchor plate and finally lower the axle to remove the Muffler assembly. To install the system you must reverse the removal steps while lifting the Muffler assembly over the rear axle and installing the hanger pins. The rear axle should be lifted before installing the lower shock absorber bolt and nut according to a torque specifications of 80 nm (60 ft. Lbs.). To install the Muffler assembly from the rear proceed with raising the right side of the rear axle to install the lower shock absorber bolt and nut at 80 nm (60 ft. Lbs.). Follow this order when installing right rear spring anchor plate u-bolts: start with outer u-bolt nuts to 25 nm then move to inner u-bolt nuts to 25 nm and finish with u-bolt nuts at 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.) or 150 nm (115 ft. Lbs.) depending on gvw below or above 7300. Install the retaining nuts and new gasket to the front of the Muffler on vehicles with 4.3l, 5.0l, or 5.7l engines using a single Catalytic Converter pipe while tightening them to 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). When working with dual Catalytic Converter pipes or an 8.1l engine position first the right Catalytic Converter inside the Muffler then apply new gaskets and tighten the nuts which secure the left Catalytic Converter to the Muffler flange while maintaining proper alignment until reaching 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.) on the right Catalytic Converter clamp and 48 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) on the Catalytic Converter to Muffler flange nuts. The 6.5l engine requires a fresh gasket installed before tightening new nuts securing the Exhaust Pipe to the Muffler flange at 48 nm torque (35 ft. Lbs.). Final steps include inspecting the exhaust system for safe clearance and correct alignment just before lowering the vehicle down.
