Drill a hole at the centerpunch point using a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit while the gas along with possible gas/oil mix remains free to escape, use shop towels to capture visible oil. The drilling process requires making the first hole at the tube's middle with a centerpunch followed by using the same 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit at the counterpunch position while managing oil discharge with shop towels. Dismount the shock absorber from the vise and position the holes downward in a drain pan as you move the rod through the tube to extract all oil from the system.
